Lottery Scams

LOTTERY SCAMS

The Philippine Embassy has received information that there are at least two ongoing fraudulent lottery announcements being directed at unsuspecting Filipinos. These are:

The modus operandi involves the following:

1. The victim receives a letter announcing he/she has won hundreds of thousands of Euros in an on-line lottery, and the money is kept in a pre-designated account.

2. The victim is informed that his/her name was chosen through a computer balloting system.

3. The company informs the victim to call or email a certain person to confirm he/she has won.

4. The victims is advised to keep his/her winning information undisclosed until he/she is able to process his/her claim and the money be remitted to them.

5. The victim is further advised to pay an amount via money transfer to a given address. To add pressure, the victim is told that there is a deadline for him/her to remit the amount.

Two identified fictitious accounts are the following:

Saxo Financial OnLine Bank
Globalum Lottery Promotions

The Embassy wishes to inform the public that these are just two of dozens of internet, mail and phone solicitations for foreign lottery promotions that are circulating in Europe which are all lottery frauds.

The Embassy further advises the public to ignore these fictitious announcements and not to remit any amount to any bank. If you have been a victim of such activities, you may wish to provide information to your nearest police station, or to the Philippine Embassy.
