Importation of Exotic Animals and Plants
As of 20 February 2007, the Department of Agriculture has ordered the temporary ban on all imports of live birds along with poultry and its products from the United Kingdom after an outbreak of the avian influenza (AI) in the European country was validated by global health authorities.
The ban, which took effect last Feb. 05, 2007 was based on a report submitted to the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) or Animal Health Organization confirming the presence of the highly pathogenic strain of the bird flu virus in Britain.
