The Philippine Embassy in The Hague reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs on November 4, 2008 that H.E. Ambassador Romeo A. Arguelles was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award for 2008 from the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

The award was presented by Prof. John T.S. Keeler, Dean of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) at the GSPIA’s 50th Anniversary Celebration on October 24, 2008 held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The award conferred to Ambassador Arguelles is in recognition for the professional service he had rendered to the Filipino people and the government of the Philippines. In a letter sent by Dean Keeler to Ambassador Arguelles informing him of his selection, he noted that his remarkable career and professional accomplishments “brought honor to the school” and that he “serve(s) as a role model for (the graduate school) students.”

Ambassador Arguelles previously served as Philippine Ambassador to Japan, as well as to Germany and Peru. In addition to being the Ambassador to The Netherlands, he also holds the current position as Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the OPCW.
